Travel Day North to Kerrville, TX and Good Friends and BBQ in Whitsett, TX

About 8:30 am today, we pulled out of our home for the last 9 nights at Retama Village in Mission, TX. Thank you Ken and Kathy for letting us stay at your RV home!

As we made the turn north on 281 from 83 in Pharr, TX, Heartland Owners Club members and friends Kevin and Nelly W pulled in behind us to complete our two-rig convoy north to Kerrville, TX.

As we traveling north on 281/37, I noticed we’d be going through Whitsett, TX. I recalled Heartland Owners Club members and friends Michael and Kelly B, and Roy and Sally E mentioning the great BBQ in the area at Choke Canyon Bar-B-Q. I mentioned it to Kevin and Nelly and we decided to stop in the area to say hi to Roy and Sally as they’re in the area waiting at the Gate Guard Services lot for an oil field gate to work and maybe we could meet at the BBQ place. Well, in the end, we decided to have lunch there too. All I can say is WOW and YUM! Real smoked brisket, ribs and sausage. And a very nice visit with Roy and Sally too 🙂 And no one took any friends or food pictures – dang.

The weather today got colder by the mile. We had precipitation from a mist to light rain. This made for really dirty roads and a now even dirtier truck and RV. As even colder weather is forecasted for Kerrville, I wanted to refill one of our propane tanks, so we stopped enroute at a Pilot and topped off both diesel and propane.

Getting closer, we slid on through San Antonio. As it has been for me in the past, it’s a bit hairy going “through” San Antonio with the RV. I may take the bypass around town next time 🙂

We arrived at Guadalupe RV Resort in Kerrville a bit after 4 pm. Immediately ahead of of was Heartland Owners Club member and friend, Bob C (TXBobcat) and his faithful companion Trevor (the Yorkie). Along with Kevin and Nelly, we all got checked in, escorted to our sites and setup. We’re in site 140. A nice pull-through. Satellite worked good and I’m getting some level of Verizon signal – so life is good.

Nancy and I both have work to do, so we’re skipping dinner out with friends tonight. But tomorrow is a new day!
