Texas Coastal Bend – Aransas Pass – Southern Oaks RV
We arrived in the Aransas Pass yesterday afternoon. Aransas Pass is in the Texas Coastal Bend, just north of Corpus Christi.
Here’s the RV in site 314 at Southern Oaks RV in Aransas Pass.
After I got setup and all settled, on my walk back from the office, while saying hello to some campers outside one of their RVs having Happy Hour, they invited me to join them. I grabbed my lawn chair and joined them for an hour or so. Great way to get a feel for the area and meet a bunch of RVers at the same time. Nice people. After dinner, Dan and Karen H picked us up and we went into Portland for ice cream at Dairy Queen.
This morning, Dan and Karen picked us up and we went over to Port Aransas (Port A). Wow was it foggy out. I mean, REALLY foggy. Dan took it slow. Taking the ferry over to Port A is always fun too. Dan and Karen had arranged one of their many Heartland Owners Club (HOC) gatherings here in the Coastal Bend area. This morning was a 9 am breakfast at Moby Dicks.
Thirteen of us were there. We had a nice breakfast and a nice visit with other Heartland owners. Below are a couple of pictures I took and a couple I lifted from Karen’s Facebook post (link).
After breakfast, we took a run into Corpus to hit a large HEB Plus store. One of Dan’s campground neighbors does a lot of meat smoking. I met Gerald yesterday and we swapped a lot of cooking ideas – though it was more one way, from him to me. This guy’s a pro! Anyway, he told me about some spices and sauces he uses and some of them can only be obtained down here at the larger HEB stores. Wanting to go back home with Gerald’s recipes and the spices and sauces for them, stopping at HEB made sense. Plus we all had a few items on our general shopping lists.
Back at the campground, I stopped by the office to pay for our camping. Check out this fella. I think he’s the campground owner’s Chihuahua. Friendly little guy. Look at those ears – I think he can fly!
Back at the RV, this afternoon, Nancy and I are both working. I’m working on the Urbanna Rally and Nancy is working on her Chegg solutions.
It’s windy here in the Coastal Bend but it’s nice and warm out. Shorts weather baby! I think we’ll enjoy our week here 🙂
