Tanger Outlets, Ole Smoky Moonshine, Mellow Mushroom Pizza and Kilwin’s Ice Cream – Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, TN – Day 3
This morning, we headed over to the Tanger Outlets on the Parkway in Sevierville. What a “mob scene” the mall was! You’d have thought they were giving product away. I could not find a regular parking spot for the beast, so I parked in an alleyway between two buildings, backed up to a loading dock. A stealth spot I guess, albeit not completely legal.
We came home for lunch. We ate our Bistro MD food. Good stuff and colorful today too!
Our friends Dave and Amy G arrived at our place after lunch and the four of us headed over to Gatlinburg. It’s only 8 miles away but it took over a half hour to get there. Half that time was spent at the edge of town as the Gatlinburg weekend traffic, even in the off-season is crazy busy.
We walked around town, visiting small shops and seeing the sights. One area we walked around in was Village Shops. We stopped into a shop called Zi Olive. They carry many olive oils, vinegars and related items. We tasted oils and vinegars and bought some too.
One of the sights we saw was The Mellow Mushroom restaurant. We decided we’d eat here later for dinner.
We made a special visit to the Ole Smoky Moonshine “Holler”
We’ve never really tried moonshine before. The four of us sampled it all at the tasting bar. They gave us 12 tiny samples in all. Some good, some not so good.
Nancy and I bought 2 jars of shine. One Apple Pie and one Moonshine Cherries. They also have a large selection of private labeled dips, salsas, hot sauces, jellies and pickled vegetables, plus a large apparel store.
At dinner time, we headed over to The Mellow Mushroom. Nancy and I had the Holy Shitake Pie. Here’s what’s on it: Olive oil and garlic base, Shiitake, button and Portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, mozzarella and Montamore cheeses. Drizzled with garlic aioli and black truffle oil. Garnished with fresh chives and shaved Parmesan. It was amazing!
No pictures, but after dinner, we walked down to Kilwin’s Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop for some ice cream. I’d give it a 3 out of 5. Nothing great. Should have stopped at Ben and Jerry’s – you always know what it’s going to be like there 🙂
While we walked a bit more yesterday, we stilled walked over 10,000 steps today! Good stuff.
Today was another great day sightseeing with friends.
