Camping in the Wisconsin Dells

Continuing our tradition (3 years running), we’ve spent the first weekend of August in the Wisconsin Dells. We invite all of our kids and whoever can make it, makes it. This year we had Jim’s son Tony and his girlfriend Judy, Jim’s sons Nathan and Dylan and Nancy’s daughter Lisa and her boyfriend Mike. Jim’s daughter Lindsay had to stay back and work and Jim’s son Mike was planning to join us but got called up to work by the Carver County Sheriff’s department to work the Minneapolis bridge accident scene.

So there’s 9 of us here in the the Dells this year. Like past years, we’re staying at the KOA. We rented a campsite up top (#86) for the RV and a 2 room Kabin (#2E) for all the kids.

Lisa and Mike got here the day before everyone else so we were able to go out to dinner with them. We had Mexican food at Pedro’s on Stand Rock Road. It was “just okay”. We walked the river walk and downtown Dells that evening. It was really nice out after being pretty sweltering all day.

We usually hit Noah’s Ark, the nations largest outdoor water park. But last year I told everyone we’d do a different park so this year we went to Mt. Olympus. It’s a theme park and water park. Most of the more adult non-water attractions were roller coasters so we did a bunch of them plus go-karts. The Hades roller coaster is wooden and it was wicked. I mean this thing rattled my old bones pretty good. Hoping not to have whiplash in a few days. If you’re looking for a very high, very fast wooden coaster, this is the one to try in the Midwest. We got rained out the in the afternoon the day at Mt. Olympus so we were unable to do their water parks. Maybe next year.

We saw a movie one night. Most of us went to The Bourne Ultimatum. Good movie if you’re into that kind of stuff. I like the Bourne series.

While the rest of us we napping and just lounging around during the rain Saturday afternoon, Nancy and the girls (Ruby and Emme) went to the new Tanger Outlet Mall to do some shopping.

Saturday night, we all went out to dinner at Marley’s. This is another usual stop on our Dell’s itinerary.
