Another beautiful day in Door County today. Once again, the National Weather Service was wrong and we’re happy because of it. We had mostly sunny weather most of the day today.
I made breakfast, then we went for a hike. We hiked about 4 miles on the Wagon Trail hiking and cross-country skiing trail system. Ruby got worn out and had to be carried in Nancy’s puppy hiking bag a couple of times. I carried Emme a couple of times as well. They were good dogs as usual though.
After our hike, we had lunch in the trailer and a small rest, then headed out in the truck, North to the “Thumb of the Door” at the tip of Door County. On the way, we stopped at the old Newport School, converted into a candy shop. We bought some of Uncle Tom’s Pancake mix, some Door County syrup and some white almond and cherry bark. Yum yum! Tom (now past on) is famous for his pancakes and was actually from the Glen Ellyn, IL area. We plan to find out how good his pancake recipe is in the morning!
We continued on to the Gills Rock area. There we saw two ferry ports. One was the Northport ferry to Washington Island and I forgot where the other one was to. We didn’t take either of them today. We also stopped at the Door County Maritime Museum but just to check hours. We plan to stop back there whenever the rains do start.
We then headed to Egg Harbor. We shopped for most of the afternoon there. Nancy bought a couple of decorator items for the house. She found a couple of pieces the day before too – in Fish Creek.
Dinner time was creeping upon us we headed back to Wagon Trail Campground in the Ellison Bay area. I made a fire, then prepped shish-kabobs of steak, chicken and veggies. I also prepared a can of beans we picked up in Fish Creek at Curt’s Spices and I heated in aluminum foil, a boboli type bread seasoned with olive oil, garlic and Italian seasonings. I cooked it all over the fire and it turned out really great.
Right now we’re lounging by the campfire. It’s probably about out 55 degrees so a little chilly on the backside (non-fireside). As soon as I am done typing up this travelogue, we’ll head out for a walk with the pups, then we may just head into Ephraim for an ice cream at Wilson’s. Of course I’ll have to stop along the way to find me a little Wi-Fi access to send this update.
Until tomorrow…
Jim
