Visiting Friends in Port Arthur and Houston, TX and a trip to Goodson’s Cafe
Yesterday (Thursday), we arrived in Port Arthur, TX to visit with our Heartland friends, Bill and Ornell S. This is the 3rd time I’ve stopped to visit. Like past years, I backed the RV down their driveway and camped right there on their property. Power and water baby – we aren’t roughing it here 🙂 Sorry, no pictures this year.
Bill decided to cook instead of the 4 of us going out to dinner. He made a large pot of beef stew and some corn bread. A great meal to accompany a great visit with our friends.
This morning, I made Aretha Frankenstein pancakes and I added pecans to the batter (recipe link). Yum! Bill fried up 2 pounds of bacon. Great food, great friends and a really nice, though too short visit. We were back on the road around 11:30 am.
We pushed into Westlake RV Resort off I-10 on the west side of Houston at the border with Katy, TX around 2 pm.
Around 5 pm, we set out for Tomball, TX for two reasons. One was to experience the Chicken Fried Steak from Goodson’s Cafe – as seen on TV! The other was to visit with our Heartland friends, Buddy and Maureen R. The Chicken Fried Steak was enormous. We knew this going in, so Nancy and I split that meal. The steak was “just okay” – not amazing. The surprise was their dinner rolls. Huge and very good. Think Lambert’s Cafe rolls, but twice the size and a bit denser.
The best part of the evening was just being able to visit with Buddy and Maureen and catch up.
