Texarkana, AR to Memphis, TN – Gus’s Fried Chicken!
Monday, Â April 14th
We left the Durant, OK late this morning. It was cold and windy – in the high 30s. We took our time going less than 200 miles today, arriving at Sunrise RV Park on I-30 in Texarkana, AR.
Our friends, Dan and Karen H are also here. We parked next to them.
After dinner, we had Dan and Karen over to our place for dessert. Nice time visiting with friends.
Tuesday, Â April 15th
We left Texarkana late this morning and stopped just a half hour east in Hope, AR at Big Jake’s BBQ. Not for food but for fried pies from the Original Fried Pie Shop. We got a dozen of their tiny pies, frozen to enjoy later.
Five hours later, we pulled into Tom Sawyer’s RV Park in West Memphis, AR. We’re in site 61 this time – a few sites down from where we were a couple weeks ago. While we were setting up, I think we found we’re having an electrical problem with the coach. Maybe with the power transfer switch (shore power vs generator power). Â We have enough power to survive, so we’ll defer repairs for now.
For dinner, we went into Memphis to the original location of Gus’s Fried Chicken. We first heard about this place from our friends Terry and Carol H.  Then just last night on TV, we saw it on a Food Network show.  Well – the chicken is “spicy” – but we like it that way. I would’t say it was amazing, but it was pretty darned good.
So while Gus’s Fried Chicken didn’t floor me – it was very good and I look forward to having it again.
Back at the RV, I did a bit of troubleshooting in the electrical problem. I removed the cover of the power transfer switch and did a visual inspection. I took some close-up pictures of it and reviewed them on the computer. Tomorrow, I may turn off the power and check the fastener torque for the electrical connections.
Person of Interest night on TV!
