Braving the weather to visit NOLA

After a morning of work and doing expense reports, we decided to call a cab to pick us up at the campground and take us downtown so we could make a FedEx drop-off, have some lunch and do some window-shopping.

After making our FedEx drop, we had the cab drop us off at Cafe Beignet in the French Quarter on Royal Street. We chose this of their two locations as they have indoor seating here.

I ordered a Muffuletta sandwich and Nancy had a bowl of Jambalaya. The food was decent.MuffulettaNancy's LunchCafe Beignet - Jim and Nancy

We even had a few non-human visitors “inside” the restaurant…Birds Inside RestaurantThe waitress told us the birds get really brave and go a bit nuts after they eat a bunch of powdered sugar from the floors 🙂

And of course, what visit to Cafe Beignet would be complete without beignets themselves? Oh so good too!

Well, I lost the picture I took. But ours looked just like these and oh so good :)

After lunch, we strolled (swiftly… in the rain) down Royal Street, stopping in a few shops to look around.

We bought some spices, hot sauce and a food gift. Nice time, weather considered. Looking forward to returning in better weather in a year or two.

Travel Day 2 – Florida Bound – We made it :)

We  made it to our usual overnight at Twin Oaks RV Park near Elko, GA last night.

We’re traveling 340 miles today, pushing the rest of the way to Tampa.  We’ll go south on I-75 nearly the entire route, getting off onto I-4 for a couple miles to exit 10 for Lazy Days Campground in Seffner, FL.

Today we stopped and had lunch at the Florida Welcome Center / Rest Area just south of the GA/FL border.  Beautiful day!

Enroute, we stopped off at Blue Beacon to get the truck and RV cleaned up.

We arrived at Lazy Days Campground in Seffner, FL around 5 pm tonight.  We’re all setup in site #3. We met our Heartland friends that are camped around us at Lazy Days. Here’s me with one of Randy and Santha’s poodles in Santha’s new Heartland Big Country RV.

For dinner, Nancy and I went out to Smokey Bones to meet a new Heartland employee.  Great meeting. I also destroyed this rack of ribs!
